Or according to what every cyclist should have, what makes life easier for many bikers and what else is available. Or what your bike needs to be roadworthy. Or what you need to experience bike tours or bikepacking trips. It's a quick and easy way to find the parts you really need.
The quick way to the answer:
Bicycle Accessories by Priority
The absolutely indispensable basic equipment
The beauty of cycling is that you don't actually need much. A bike. A bike helmet. That's about it...almost! If you don't want to keep an eye on your bike all the time, you need a bike lock. There are different bike locks to buy, some are almost impossible to pick, others offer a little less resistance, but they are light and cheap. We have many bike locks here in the shop, just pick the one that suits you! The second item that simply every household needs that includes a bike is a bike pump. Every bike tire loses some air over time, even if it's not broken. You can use the air pump to replenish lost air. For all those who get on their bike only very rarely, this equipment is sufficient.
If you want to ride your bike on public roads, your bike should also have roadworthy equipment, otherwise you could face traffic tickets.
Must-haves - the checklist:
- Bike lock
- Bike pump
- Bike helmet
Important bike accessories
If you're not quite so minimalist, you can stock up on some more bike gear. Completely regardless of whether you ride a mountain bike, are a road cyclist, or just ride your bike to work every day, there are a lot of bike accessories that will make your rides much more enjoyable. First and foremost is a really good bike light. If you're riding at night or in bad weather, plug-in lights that provide good visibility are really helpful. A bike backpack that is designed to fit your riding position on the bike will be particularly comfortable. If you want to carry more, you will need bike bags. In the BMO online shop, you will find a huge selection, ranging from mini saddle bags to pannier sets with a capacity of 65 litres. If you like to ride your bike a lot and don't want to run to a workshop for every little thing, you should get yourself a small but nice tool collection that also includes repair kits or spare tubes. If you use your bike for short or long rides in your free time, a water bottle with a matching bottle cage (often available under the English name "cage") is very practical.

Nice if you've got it
From here on out, bike gear splits into specialty gear needed for different cycling disciplines. For competitive road cyclists, electronic monitoring of their performance with a smart sports watch is important. A touring rider needs a reliable navigation system, luggage rack and mudguards. A person who loves their stylish urban bike will want to hang it as a decoration in the living room with the help of a wall mount. A mountain biker needs a shock pump and hydration pack. Parents can chauffeur their offspring in a child seat. Transport bags stow your whole bike when it's time to go on the road.

Bicycle equipment according to specific purposes
Whether it's competitive sports, pleasure touring or everyday riding, there are all sorts of different cycling philosophies. Which bike accessories you need depends primarily on what you do with your bike. Here, we have sorted the accessories for bikes and e-bikes according to their intended use. So you can quickly find what you need on the road.
More safety on the bike
This is not just about the safety of your bike, you can also significantly improve your safety with a few bike accessories. To make sure your bike is always parked safely, you need a bike lock. To ensure that your luggage arrives complete and dry, you should store it in a suitable bag. For your personal safety, we can do a whole lot more. Our bike lights will make sure you can see everything and be seen on the road. Our bike satnavs show you the safe way. Colourful cycling clothing not only protects you from bad weather, it also makes you highly visible. But the very first place in terms of safety is undisputedly occupied by the bicycle helmet.
Attachments - extremely practical bike accessories
If you're buying a new touring bike or a city bike, it probably has some practical comfort equipment. But if it's missing a part or two, you can easily upgrade add-on parts like luggage racks or fenders. You can also retrofit side stands or bottle cages. Many bikes have the mounting eyelets needed to do this. If these mounting points are not available on your bike, there are often adapters, clamps or lashing solutions that allow you to attach them later. You can also buy these helpers here in the shop under the category bike accessories.
E-bike accessories
In principle, you can use all bike accessories on the e-bike. However, there are a few accessories that are built specifically for e-bikes, these include rear view mirrors or adapters that allow you to fit a handlebar basket around the electric wiring. Since an e-bike travels much faster than a normal bike, you should make sure that your equipment is particularly firmly attached to the pedelec, so you do not lose anything on the road.
By the way, it's completely different with bike parts, they are in most cases adapted to the increased weight or speed of an e-bike and therefore e-bike specific!
Bike accessories for bike touring and bikepacking
If you want to go on a big trek with your bike, you'll need this and that. Spare clothes, rainwear, sleeping bag, gas stove and so on. Therefore, for bike touring and bikepacking bike bags are absolutely essential. Especially handy is a handlebar bag or handlebar roll with a clear pocket on top, where you can store a map, your mobile phone or a bike computer with navigation function. This way you can always find a nice bike path. The corresponding front or rear racks go under the bike bags. The further away from civilisation you want to venture, the more bike tools and spares you should have on board, most notably a mini pump!
On top of that, if you have a bottle cage with a matching water bottle on your bike, you're ready to embark on your big bike trekking adventure
Bike gear for mountain biking
If you want to ride your XC hardtail for touring, you can look to bikepacking gear. If, on the other hand, you want to scrub over trails on your Fully, you'll probably just need bottle cages and water bottles, or alternatively a drink backpack. Many mountain bikers also carry energy bars and spare inner tubes in their MTB backpack. Depending on how wild your rides get, you'll then need the appropriate protective gear. A protector backpack is sufficient for moderate terrain, otherwise you should go for more sophisticated protectors. An MTB helmet is, of course, a must!
If you don't want to carry a backpack, you can pack mutlitool and spare tubes in a saddle bag. Larger saddlebags have a few litres of capacity. So there's plenty of room in there for a rain jacket and a mini pump.
For E-MTBs the same equipment is practical, you should only check before buying a cup holder whether it also fits to the frame in addition to the battery.
Accessories for commuters
Riding your bike to work every day is a really good decision! Your fitness and health will benefit, as will the environment. With the right cycling accessories, you can get to work by bike or e-bike as comfortably as by car. Our business bike bags ensure wrinkle-free office documents. Chic bicycle backpacks offer even a little more room than a shoulder bag. If you leave your bike unattended during work hours, be sure to secure it with a good bike lock. Fenders will protect your work clothes from splashing water.
And one more tip: almost all bike commuters have to use public roads on their way to the office. Here your bike needs the traffic-safe equipment that the StVZO prescribes.
Power enhancement - for maximum performance
Actually, bicycle equipment for road cyclists should be at this point. But road bikes and equipment don't really mix well, right? Less is more, every gram counts. Nevertheless, we would like to recommend a few practical items. You want to push yourself to the limit and challenge yourself and your fitness again and again? Here are a few tools to help you do just that. In order to improve your performance, you first need to know the status quo. Sports watches and heart rate monitors monitor your performance and (depending on the model) help you with targeted training programs.
If you're training hard, though, you should never do so without an adequate supply of water! Water Bottle and Cage will ensure your hydration on the go. If you want to move your workout indoors in the winter, you can do your laps on one of our roller trainers. Our sports nutrition will keep you energized during and after your workout. On the road, energy bars and energy gels provide an extra boost of power, and after the work is done, isotonic sports drinks bring the mineral balance back up to speed.
Bike accessories for bad weather
Even days of rain or the approach of winter don't scare you? You ride your bike no matter what the weather is doing? That's where we're happy to support you, there are special cycling accessories for rainy weather. A protective hood for the saddle or rain covers for bike basket and bike bags protect your luggage from wetness. Mudguards and Mudguards will keep the rain on the road and not flinging it off the wheels and up to you.
When the weather gets worse, it also likes to get dark. So even during the day, be sure to have good lighting and mandatory reflectors on your bike to be on the safe side.
Of course, tires aren't necessarily part of your bikeaccessories, but grippy tires are an absolutely essential safety feature in the wet! Especially if you get on your bike in winter, you should upgrade to winter tyres in good time, which also offer good grip on the road in snow and ice.
If you also have rain gear and winter cycling gear in your closet, you can officially count yourself among the hard core of foul-weather bikers.
Bike accessories for families with kids
When there's a baby on the way, that's no reason to let your bike gather dust in the corner. You don't have to switch to a massive cargo bike either, a child seat with a high backrest will transport toddlers comfortably and safely until they can make their first attempts at riding themselves.
If the kids want to make their first rounds and their sense of balance is not yet well enough developed, you can add support wheels to the children's bike. So that you don't have to carry the luggage all by yourself later on, there are many cool bike backpacks especially for kids in which they can carry their rain jacket, water bottle, ball or snacks themselves. Smaller bike bags can also be attached to a child's bike. If school children cycle to school, they should have a luggage rack with bike basket on the bike. This way they don't have to carry their school bag, gym bag, jacket etc. on their back. On bike tours with kids, it's especially important to have a first aid kit with you.
A pulling system or tow rope will help if your offspring just "can't do it anymore." You can then hitch the kid's bike to your bike, so the ride home and good cheer are assured.
