MRC Direct Mount Stem Spacer
Description
Many downhill riders today swear by raising the front end. Some use handlebars with high rises, others clamp so-called stem spacers between triple clamp and handlebar or build headset spacers under the upper triple clamp. The reason for this is obvious. Raising the front gives more security on steep trails. It takes some pressure off the hands and makes for more relaxed runs. Fine-tuning the riding position and therefore the wheel loads is possible - the bike's cornering behaviour can be positively influenced.
Sensible is such an increase especially when frames with a very long reach (very large frames) are used: In some circumstances, the rider would be positioned too much on the handlebars with a flat front. By raising the front, the rider stands a bit more upright and thus experiences a more central riding position. The increase is also recommended for very tall riders, who would otherwise achieve a very stooped "steering position". However, the special feature of our spacer is that it not only increases the steering center by 12 mm, but also moves the stem forward by 10 mm: Due to the very flat steering angle on modern DH bikes, when the stem is raised, the entire unit also moves to the rear and shortens the rider's "working space". If the rider uses an 8 mm thick headset spacer ring in conjunction with the 12 mm high Stem-Spacer 12/10, he increases his front by a total of 20 mm. In conjunction with a 63° steering angle, a 20 mm increase would move the handlebars back 10.2 mm - the spacer exactly compensates for this difference in length, and the handlebars effectively go up.
Included are a spacer and 4 mounting bolts for secure mounting on the triple clamp. The spacer fits state of the art direct mount mounts such as those found on current RockShox, Fox, BOS, Marzocchi, or Manitou downhill forks.
