A shock pump should definitely have a pressure gauge, with which you can accurately meter the pressure. These gauges come in digital or analog, so they're equipped with a good old pointer.

This is a really good question. As is almost always the case, it's mostly a matter of taste. One manufacturer builds a more readable display on their suspension pump, the other is known for particularly comfortable handling.
