By changing the tyre, you can have a decisive influence on the performance of your bike. The very simple and uncomplicated intervention in the driving and rolling behavior of your wheels is thus at the same time an inexpensive way of bike tuning.<nbsp;Bicycle tire we put here, by the way, the same with the term Bicycle jacket, meant is the thick rubber cover that protects the tube from damage and ensures that your bike adheres well to the ground. The rim keeps the whole structure stable and nice and round, spokes connect the rim to the hub and all together is called running wheel. In our shop you will find a very wide range of different bike tyres from UST tubeless tyres to puncture proof MTB clincher tyres
Tires for every area of use and rider type
Tire requirements vary according to the area of use. Touring riders require narrower tires with the lowest possible rolling resistance. Quality products such as those from Continental or Schwalbe have a low rolling resistance and very good grip. High-quality puncture-proof tires also ensure relaxed touring without forced breaks. As a freerider and downhiller, you need a soft MTB tyre that offers maximum grip and allows you to make fast runs. For the voluminous tyres for the downhill range, you should definitely use the corresponding DH tube or convert to tubeless.Road tyres and Gravel tyres on the other hand are narrow and roll on little profile, so the rolling resistance is minimized and the bike whizzes along as fast as an arrow. Many fixie tires have a very good grip and puncture protection despite the low rolling resistance. You can even find BMX bike tyres in our online shop.
Bike tyres for dry surfaces are also available as well as rain tyres and special winter tyres with spikes.
With the right choice of tire, you will be faster and safer on the road. To match your bike tyre, be sure to replace your bicycle inner tube as well. Super-light bicycle inner tubes are an inexpensive way to save a lot of weight and increase efficiency
With a tire change you can not only decisively improve the riding characteristics of your bike, you can also score visually. Colored tires in many variations make your bike more beautiful, but of course we also provide you with white walls or brown tires, according to taste and trend. A set of classic Skinwall tyres, for example, is a must for your retro bike.
Also be sure to choose a new rim tape and the bicycle tube to match the tire. Super lightweight bicycle inner tubes can save a lot of weight and increase acceleration. We have all types of bike tires in stock and will be happy to advise you!
The different bicycle tires
There are different systems and setups for bicycle tires. They differ in the materials, their robustness and significantly affect the driving performance. These types of tires are currently available for purchase:
Wire-wound tire
The clincher tire, or internationally known as a clincher, is the most commonly used standard among bicycle tires. A wire ring is threaded through the tire bead, so the rubber can't expand under pressure and pop off the rim. >> Go to our clincher tires
Folding tire
The folding tire is a variation of the clincher tire. In this design, the wire ring is replaced by Kevlar threads. This allows the tire to fold down to a smaller pack size and also saves weight due to the lightweight Kevlar. >> To our folding tires
TR - Tubeless Ready
The acronym TR stands for Tubeless Ready. With these coats, you have the choice of riding with or without a tube. In order to avoid air loss when riding tubeless, a special sealing milk is put into the tyre. It perfectly seals the tyre and in many cases even serves as a first puncture repair. Smaller punctures are immediately sealed again with the help of tubeless milk, so that the tyre only loses a minimum of air. You can inflate your bike tire again without annoying tube patching and continue your tour. >> To our tubeless-ready tires
UST - Universal System Tubeless
The Universal System Tubeless, UST for short, is related to the TR system. Here, the tube is also dispensed with, but UST tires also do not use tubeless milk. The tire has a different structure and requires UST rims, which are already sealed. >> To our UST tires
Tubular tire
In tubular tires, an inner tube is sewn directly into the tire and glued to special rims. This variant is mainly used in road cycling. Many professionals still rely on the system, the reason for which is supposed to be a particularly smooth rolling and cornering behavior. However, a modern folding tyre is in no way inferior to a tubular tyre in terms of rolling resistance. A clear advantage of the system is that the tire does not jump off the rim in case of a flat tire. Thus, the cyclist can roll out without danger and in the race even cover a few meters until the material truck is on site. The big disadvantage is the complex assembly, by sticking on the rim a tire change is considerably more tedious than with other bicycle tires. >>To our tubular tires
Spike tires and winter tires
A studded tire or winter tire is a specialist for hardship. If the winter is particularly icy and snowy, it's worth reaching for studded tires. We offer various models from Continental and Schwalbe in our shop. Studded tyres have a pronounced tread and are additionally equipped with so-called spikes - small metal pins. They offer excellent grip on a winter tour in the forest with your mountain bike. But also on your everyday rides, for example on the way to work, you will encounter icy patches. Studded tyres provide you with the necessary safety. In our blog article "Mit dem Fahrrad durch den Winter" you will find important tips for winter bikers. >>> Zu unseren Spikereifen
Kids Bike Tires
In addition to tires for children's bikes, we also offer a small selection of tires for strollers in our shop. From the tire manufacturer Schwalbe you will find tires for the stroller. These tires have an extra thick puncture protection insert, so that flat tires are a thing of the past. >> To our children's bike tires
The most popular bicycle tire manufacturers
When it comes to bicycle tires in particular, it pays to go for brand-name products! For one thing, there is often less wear to complain about here than is the case with cheap products, and you don't have to constantly go in search of new coats. In addition, the condition of the tyres is often the deciding factor in whether you crash or not! That's why the tires of well-known manufacturers, who work out new rubber compounds in their own development department and test them on a large scale, are considered to be particularly safe.
The fact that manufacturers like Continental and Michelin mainly produce car tyres is also a big advantage for cyclists! The knowledge gained around car tires helps bikers get better material and be safer.
Other manufacturers like Onza or Maxxis focus entirely on two-wheelers. You can also find the popular Schwalbe tyres in our online shop. The first bicycle tyres with built-in puncture protection come from this traditional manufacturer, you can recognise them by the name Unplattbar. Schwalbe also provides its road bike tyres with a puncture-proof layer in the carcass. Schwalbe also supplies numerous MTB tires that enjoy real cult status, Magic Mary, Dirty Dan or Smart Sam are just a few representatives of them
By the way, many of the major manufacturers have recognized the signs of the times and try to produce their tires as sustainably as possible. Efforts range from manufacturing with their own solar power to great recycling programs. Here's how you can add a little extra to your contribution to saving the climate.
What to look for when buying a new bicycle tire?
Buying a new bike tire can become a real science. There are many parameters to consider and a huge selection of different manufacturers and types. However, some things your bike will dictate on its own. First you should determine for which bike category you are looking for a new tire. Up to this point, the choice is very simple: Do you have a mountain bike, a road bike, a touring bike or a city bike? Within the individual categories it comes to the fine selection. Here, the terrain you ride on most often influences the choice of the right tyre. A small rule of thumb you can remember. The rougher the terrain, the rougher the tire can be to guarantee the best possible grip. If you are mostly on asphalt and need good running properties, the tire should be less profiled.
The decision of the tire size is also dictated by the existing wheels. Here, in most cases, the decision is made between 26, 27.5, 28 and 29 inches. However, it is not only the diameter of the tires that counts, the width is also important. Depending on the type of bike, your bike has more or less clearance, i.e. space for tires with different widths. If you're not sure what size you need for your bike, we've prepared a comprehensive guide to the different tire sizes on our blog for you. Bike inner tubes have different valves, but they don't come into contact with the casing, so they don't matter when buying a bike tire! The valves do need to match the rim though, so they can be put through the hole!
A big decision is the tire system. For some this is a matter of faith, for others a technical detail. Tubeless tyres bring some advantages in weight and puncture resistance. Tires with bicycle tubes, on the other hand, are easier for inexperienced screwdrivers to change and maintain. The liquid sealant in tubeless tyres can be a real pain in the neck and make a big mess when fitting them. However, if you go about it with patience and calm, you should usually succeed and can then enjoy the great advantages of tubeless tires.
The most important questions in brief:
- What size tire do I need?
- What kind of bike do I own?
- Do I want to ride with tubular or tubeless?
- How much grip do I need?
- Do I have the necessary accessories for mounting?
In addition to tires, you'll of course find everything else you need in our shop for tire accessories mounting, maintenance, tuning or repairs. We keep patch kits, tire levers, tire sealant, valve caps, valve cores and complete puncture kits for you. Once the tire is purchased, it needs to be mounted. Little helpers make mounting fresh tyres child's play. High-quality tyre levers lift the often tight rubber onto the rim
After that, the tire wants to be filled to the brim and the tour can begin. However, the correct tire pressure is very crucial for the running characteristics, the grip behavior and the puncture protection. In our blog you will find an article, how to determine the perfect tire pressure for your bike. A pump with pressure gauge makes determining tire pressure a breeze
